Musée Marmottan Monet's Newest Exhibition

Elisa, Pauline and Caroline Bonaparte lived a life of decadence, splendour, and unprecedented influence. Musée Marmottan Monet is bringing The Sisters of Napoleon back to life this October with an exhibition dedicated to their lives as princesses and wives.

140 works make up the collection, which offers a refreshing perspective on the Napoleonic Empire.

A Unique Perspective on Bonaparte's Sisters

Paintings, sculptures, jewellery and more have been collected from descendants of the family to create the exhibition. The collection seeks to offer an unprecedented glimpse into the Napoleonic Empire through the lives of its most prominent women.

Caroline (1782-1839) was Grand Duchess Consort of Berg and became Queen Consort of Naples and Sicily following her marriage to General Joachim Murat. Pauline (1780-1825) was an imperial French Princess and the first sovereign Duchess of Guastally; she was the only sister to visit Napoleon during his exile. Elisa (1777-1820) the Princess of Piombino and later, the Grand Duchess of Tuscany was Bonaparte's only sister to possess political influence. She was known for her sharp tongue and her interest in theatre, which she encouraged in all places over which she ruled. These princesses and queens of Italy will have their public and private lives showcased in 140 exhibited works, which have been loaned from prestigious collections in France and Italy.

Visitors to the event may also wish to explore the museum further. Musée Marmottan Monet features an impressive collection of Impressionist art, along with work from Monet and Morisot. It is a beautiful and historic establishment located in the 16th arrondissement.
